"Weather isn't so scary once you understand it"
We live in a world where information is at our fingertips at all times.  This is a blessing and curse.  The 24/7 news cycle that never sleeps or slows is a constant that we can barely avoid at every corner.  Information is power, but sometimes too much is too much.  The issue now is that information on the multitude of platforms is not always true, sensationalism for the sake of clicks is a huge issue.  In my business of weather it is very prevalent and I believe getting worse.  I have worked my whole career to forecast what I think will happen so people can plan their lives and be informed.  This aggressive appetite for content can easily get in the way of what the real truth.  What will actually happen and what to be aware of.   The "Calm before the Storm" has always been the motto of KARE 11 Weather and one that I have lived by for 35 years.  I think explaining the nuts and bolts of weather is the key to help adults and children understand and not be anxious and afraid about every cloud that forms overhead.  This is why I wrote my series of "Bel the Weather Girl" books and why I continue to speak on this matter.  It is important to clear the confusion and get the facts out so everyone is informed, safe and not afraid.
